Mission
Dansmakers Amsterdam scouts young, original, enthusiastic and determined dance artists. We support their ambition to make innovative steps in their development. Our commitment is to contribute to the development of contemporary dance (modern, multi- disciplinary, urban, youth, cross-over, fusion, and world dance etc).
Vision
Dansmakers Amsterdam supports talented dance makers. We provide a place for choreographers to develop their own style independently and an international platform for the rise of new ideas in the dance discipline. We intend to pioneer the discourse on dance by means of performances, open rehearsals, workshops and symposia.
History
Dansmakers Amsterdam started in 1993 as DansWerkplaats Amsterdam (DWA). Important contemporary Dutch makers such as Ann Van den Broek, Anouk van Dijk, Mette Ingvarsten, Michael Schumacher and Sassan Saghar Yaghmai started their choreographic careers at DWA.
From dance workshop DWA developed into a dance production house. As generator of talent, Dansmakers stands for research, development and production in the field of contemporary dance, in the broadest sense of the word: modern, multi-disciplinary, urban, youth, cross-over, and fusion.
For the season 2009-2010 Dansmakers presents productions for national and international podia by Sheyda Darab, Gabriella Maiorino, Cecilia Moisio, Giulia Mureddu, Kalpana Raghuraman and Inari Salmivaara. For young audiences, Dansmakers offers productions by Gaia Gonnelli and Marie-Rose Mayele.
